How does one cut earthenware pots?

Unread post by deepesh »

I have had a tough time trying to cut these earthenware pots with a saw. Mine seem to shatter all to easily especially after twenty minutes of careful sawing. Frustrating to say the least! I tried soaking but that made them crumble :(

Perhaps a guy who has a glasscutter can help you? Just a guess. Shops selling windowpanes and stuff should have glasscutters. You could ask one of those....

And what are u doing with sawed-through terracotta??

Deepesh you cannot have it with saw. Are you trying to get smooth edges then it will be difficult. Otherwise make some point by rubbing on surface to make a line. Then using gentle force try to break them.

:1
But edges will not be smooth. In childhood days, I have broken the upper part of a MATKA using this technique to grow flowering plants. 666

You mean mark a line to groove on the surface and then break it off gently?

I can file or sandpaper the edges smooth.

Yes, you are going on the point.

I was trying out teracotta caves for the loaches although the Lepidocephalichthys guntea are more keen on burying themselves in the sand substrate than on using the caves. The Lepidocephalichthys irrorata seem to be arboreal so to speak as they spend a lot of their time in the leaves of the plants. Even so I thought I would try this especially after seeing Wojtek's teracotta caves in his panda cory breeding setup.

I tried the small pots, kulhads, as in Vishaals or Vijendras pics but the loaches don't like the broad opening of a pot on its side. They show a preference for caves with low roofs and lower openings. I'll try to put up some pics today.
