Effect of glut in Aquarium

Unread post by abartar »

I added glut in my 4' tank but the water turned milky the next day. What could be the reason? I added 4 ml of 25% glut first time and the water was milky next morning. The tank settled the subsequent day. After 2 days I added only 2ml of glut and again the water turned milky the following morning. Luckily all the fauna & flaura are fine. I don't think it's to do with quantity of glut.

4 ML? you have to be lucky that your tank didnt die. That cloudyness is cos of the cycling process starting over. Nothing to panic. not yet atleast. Read up on Glut and then dose your tank.
Just cos it happened to you is no means for you to claim that it will happen to me. Exceptions aren't the rule.

Does it mean that glut killed all the nitrfying bacteria and the cloudiness was due to bacteria boom. Even after 2 ml the water was cloudy

Glut is a VERY strong disinfectant used in hospitals to sterilize surgical items. It is possible that you killed the bacteria in there and it started over.

can i ask where did you get the 4ml dosage from?

4 ml is not a high dosage for your.

Cloudy water means your tank is not recycled till now. So dose only 1 ml in alternate days for next 30-40 days. After that increase the dose.

Thanks. I am still wondering if glut will kill the beneficial bacteria than how come there will be bacterial boom next morning - leading to cloudy water.
