Re: the juvenile atractosteus spatula
this fish looks at everything swimming around it as a source of food, as it is one of the top predators.
grows fast, has huge jaws and azor sharp teeth and the amazing graceful swimming that doesn't scare off potential prey
they don't attack anything to kill, but just for food, there have been times when these fish choke on prey which is very much larger than what it can eat, in turn killing themselves
they are quite lazy, who like to keep staying afloat or may be lie at the bottom of the tank, but mostly will stay afloat on the surface.
both the specimens of this fish i keep are on pellets, no live food.
the larger one is fed once in two to three days and the smaller one is fed twice a day to keep up with its fast metabolism
these are not fish to be kept with other fish, better to keep them alone or with fish who can take care of themsleves against this predator
these fish are quite rugged, even bad water parameters or low oxygen content in water will not cause much harm to them, but they need large spaces for them to be relaxed, else they usually stress out and will probably be skittish enouigh to crash into the sides of the tank and succumb to borken bones
