Google tells me that this is the same species as Channa andrao, which I saw at Vijendras' place and had a chance to own. But this colour form is outstanding, and I feel this name is deserved. It could be called Channa andrao var Himalayanus.

In this top class article, this name is mentioned as a synonym.

That website is meticulous about names, been reading it a long time, and I am sure Andrew Rao himself respects it for accurate nomenclature at least.

An extract from it, if you do not want to click on the link, goes as follows:

This species was available in the aquarium hobby for a number of years prior to description and continues to be traded under various names including C. sp. ‘Lal Cheng’, C. sp. ‘Assam’, C. sp. ‘blue bleheri’, C. sp. ‘himalayanus’, and C. sp. ‘red’.

The names of valid, but distinct, congeners such as C. amphibeus, C. bleheri or C. stewartii have also been misapplied to it.
