Answer

Congrats Abhishek and Shergill for the right answer. The amazing fact is that Tish is the goldfish name died in 1999 at the age of 43. In 1998 Tish was recognised by the Guinness Book of Records as the world's longest living goldfish, took the title from Fred another gold fish who died in 1980 at the age of 41.

Question No. 4

A tough one....Believed to have been extinct since the cretaceous period this fish was found alive and well off the east coast of South Africa in 1938. Since then many examples have been recorded. What is the fish?

Do you look for Coelacanthus?
Have seen a few reports on this. I think they were even able to find some isolated populations around Madagascar.

The correct name is Coelacanth, derived from the latin world Coelacanthus meaning 'hollow spine'.

There are two species, one found off the coast of the African continent close to the South, and the other off the cost of the country of Indonesia, so both shergill and the others are right.

They are a Lazarus taxon, meaning that as a miracle of Mother Nature (i belive Nature has the biggest miracles to show us), these two species have re-appeared in real life after generations of scientists knew them only as fossils. They are living fossils.

There are many plants, animals, birds and even bacteria and fungi, that are living fossils. ;)

That is the genus name. Coelacanths were various species, and only two of them escaped extinction. Those two surviving coelacanths comprise the genus Latimeria (with an 'e' and not an 'a'); and others were various other genuses. They are the most endangered order of animals in the world.

Coelacanths are more closely related to us mammals, than they are to ray-finned fishes.
