No one knows what rock is this? I paid a lot of money for this and want to ensure that I have not been fooled. Anyone?

This is very common rock comes from western part of India and dumped near ghtorni area for local gardening and landscaping work.

I would suggest if your tank is high-tech and not an experimental one don't use this rock.

If still u want to use it wash it like Buffalo wash. Otherwise after a month it will spoil your whole tank.

Wish you would have asked somebody before you invest so much.

:1, one of my friend used it in his planted tank but removed it, as it was changing the water chemistry and was dissolving slowly.

It doesn't look like limestone and doesn't feel like it's going to dissolve.

I did clean it up and all that was removed was some mud that was stuck in those holes.

I need to rescape and need to ensure that I make the right start. Do you strongly recommend that I shouldn't use this rock? I really don't have a way to measure changes in the water chemistry.

Yes don't use it. For rocks you have to know invest 400_450/kg.
