DIY co2

Unread post by asheesh »

Hi all,
Most of us have planned tanks and need co2 refill every month. Its not an issue for those who stay near refilling station, but for rest its a very time consuming process. Last week i created Co2 using citric acid and backing soda. Its not only cheap but works fine.

Here are the items that you need

Citric Acid 100 GMs
Baking soda 100 GMs
Water 400 ml
Two Pop Bottles
Co2 tube
Needle Valve
Super glue

Lets name our two bottles as Bottle A and Bottle B
1. Make a small hole in the cap of Bottle A using hot Screw
2. Clean it up and insert one end of co2 pipe through it. Hole needs to be so small so that its very hard for you to push the pipe in, that way it will not leak any co2.
3. Length of the pipe that you push through should be enough to touch the bottom of the bottle when cap is screwed on
4. Add small amount of super glue around the pipe near the cap ( seal the hole and pipe)
5. Create two holes in the cap of bottle B
6. Put another end of pipe that comes from bottle A into one of the holes of Bottle B
7. put small piece of pipe in second hole of bottle B and connect other end of that pipe to needle valve
8. Add super glue to seal the pipe and the bottle cap holes
9. Connect Other end of needle valve to bubble counter and add the pipe in tank via diffuse etc..
10. Add 100 gms of Citric acid in bottle A and 300 ml of water
11. Add 100 gms of Baking soda and 100 ml of water in bottle B
12. close the caps and shake each bottle so that the mix gets dissolved
13. Make sure to be careful so none of the mixtures from each bottle gets in touch with each other :P
14. Press bottle A few times so that Citric acid gets added to the mix in bottle B, Make sure needle valve is closed at this point
15. wait for 10 mins and open the needle valve

Costing
1. Baking soda Rs 10 100 Gms pack
2. Citric acid Rs 50 500 Gms pack
3. Needle value , i had one spare with me, but it wont be more than Rs. 200-300
4. Pipe Rs 100
5. Super glue Rs 5
6. Bottles Free :P
Here is the video of my setup hope you would like it

Nice and innovative.
