Re: Building large planted paludarium(10*11)feet
it been long since an update, wz busy with shifting and settling to the new home(ie: where this project is).
The paludarium is progessing will update the happenings in these days, along with the difficulties face.
here is a top view pic, wil post many more shortly
1: Added fishes - puntius denisoi (40), Flame Gouramis (10), Veil tail Surf eye(10), silver shark(Bala shark(5)) lot of corys, Chinese algae eaters, 40 rainbow sharks and 10 albino sharks to start with. The fishes are doing well with very less causality.
2.the aquatic plants - many are not doing well (light source is just natural sunlight, not direct), the ferns n vals, E.Rubin , Marblequeen are doing well all other Echinodours not sustaining. So added more vals.
3. Terrestrial plants - almost all are doing great. Had while mould fungus issues with some plants and runners, removed them and planted with hardy varities , because pesticides cannot be sprayed as will reach water affecting fishes, lillies flower often.
4. It has become a natural Habitat for many creatures - there are butterflies entering from top, honeybees, lizards, many spiders have put webs just above water.(which looks pretty), a chameleon has entered dont know how, there are even Ant colonies.
5. There has been no algae issue in water yet, but algae have started forming through areas above where the water flows as waterfall towards the bottom.
6. I water the terrestrial plants every alternate days.
7. we utilise the water in paludarium for watering our gardens plants, so a bit of fresh water gets added daily. have done only half water change in past 2 months.have entered only once in water area to prune of the aquatic plant leave, we get a great fish pedicure with all the rainbow sharks especially moving over the feet.
8. Getting above and standind admist at times during pruning gives a very natural fell of being in forest, than viewing it from front.
9. thinking of adding terrestrial plants that need not be rooted into soil btw rock areas...searching for the apt species......

I think 10 albino sharks are quite to much as they can grow 24"+(and they grow at unbelievable rate) and may also eat smaller tankmates.
