Glass Bloodfin Tetra (Prionobrama filigera)

Unread post by apuda2010 »

Hi,

Happened to stop at an LFS in Saket on my way back from the meeting at Bappada's house yesterday. Came across this fish called the Glass Bloodfin Tetra - found these to be very very pretty and a perfect inhabitant for planted tanks.

Has anyone kept these ? Any special requirements ? Are they fin nippers ?

The LFS as usual ( :) ) was selling these as red-tail tetra ! Finally found pics on this website - http://www.seriouslyfish.com/profile.ph ... era&id=612.

Never kept them as they grow quite big for a nano aquarium, but LFS did keep them for a long time, so they must be sturdy guys!

But for sure I will count them amongt the best shoalers, and a 4ft tank will be a good starting length for them.
Not sure of the nipping part. But they occupy surface of water like danios, so will work well for a cichlids tank as good dithers.
nut cases ratt
brainless growl
rest you dont understand, and thats where you read/think TWICE before you post!!

Have successfully kept them when I was living in Pune (boy miss those times, was a tetra heaven for me, all the possbile tetras were available there.....:))

These are very pretty fishes, keep them in a planted tank in a school of atleast six (preferably more), they are not fin nippers and dont have any special requirements except for a tightly covered tank. There was less than an inch gap between my tank and the hood and this little guys sometimes used to jump out of that tiny gap, lost most of them like that only.............
