Best 3 foods for cichlids.Feeding regime-

Hi guys, i have been keeping cichlids since beginning of my hobby-1.5 years & fed them different food, though i have not tried every food in market, i have found NLS to be best , i have fed hikari, Shrimps, Blood worms,Sera bits but never tetrabits. which 3 food for african cichlids would you recommend, arrange in order of preference, also i have heard starving fish for 1day a week is good, is it true? give your valuable tips on feeding regime also.

depends on what is the natural diet of the fish u are buying

most of the malawis that we buy are algae waters hence u will require to feed them hikari cichlid excel
and most of the tangs that are here they require meaty foods, hence cichlid gold sinking or floating depending on the kinda fish u have

and also can add some snails for the snail eaters like the julidochromis

thats the reason why research on the fish to be bought is the most important thing to do.

thanks guys, i have 8 frontosa about 2-3 inch in size & 8 peacock 4 are 4 inches & 4 are babies(1-2 inch), i feed them NLS sometimes, at its expensive, i am out of my hikari bio gold+ so was wondering of getting tetrabits this time but as pointed out hikari bio gold will be better, my peacocks are showing great colors!!! the only thing is that my baby peacocks are not growing much, i got them 3 months ago & they have hardly grown, i am worried for them.

when fish dont grow properly, zappp them with some live food!

if they are juveniles, feed them grindal worms. they will jump with joy.

u can read about grindal worms by googling them. but do not feed them more than 3 days a week.

grindal worms are for juveniles of small fish or fry of large fish, and africans are large fish, when in regard to grindal worms

africans grow quite slow compared to the americans(south or central)

whats the tank size for so many fish
whats the filtration
whats the water change schedule
whats the temperature maintained or there is no heater in the tank
whats the feeding regimen
if u can give actual answers for the above i think we can help u to put u to ease or point out the issue

I would skip on tetrabits as fronts are blue based. If your peacocks are red based then only go for tetrabits.
Feed 3 times a day with biweekly w/c until filtration is great.

though grindals are indeed small, my full grown angelfish accepts them happily. since i have a glass bottom tank, it just picks them off the floor if it is too lazy to catch them as they fall. they are easy to see, being white as grains of rice. so no problems there. my goldfish also pick the grindals off the floor. i understand that many cichlid keepers keep fish in bare-bottom tanks.

i feed my grindals to adult small size fish without issues. this includes bettas, dwarf cichlids like Bolivian Rams and Ramirezi, cosby and dwarf gouramis, guppies, neons, white cloud mountain minnows, zebra danios, moth catfish, paradise fish, various tetras commonly sold like columbians, and many more. as you n
