I recently got my first eheim canister filter. But I am completely confused with the setup. I went through a few articles on the web and on youtube, but i am confused even more. Every article says you need to cut some of the inlet, outlet, return tubing off??? I was hoping if anybody can provide me with some pictorial description of the various stages of the set up, would be very helpful for me. :)

My dear, please introduce yourself in "Self Introduction" and update your location.

Cutting the inlet, outlet and tube means converting those according to the requirement.

I had been through this video before. He took the vid after the setup and does not explain in-depth. Also certain areas are dark where you cannot see, like his prev video.

But thanks rajiv nonetheless.

slowpoison, you got two control valve with your pack of Eheim filter, one for inlet and other one for outlet? you have to connect them with the outlet and inlet of your conister so you need two small pieces of both pipes.

Well I didn't want to start off in this forum by proving myself a complete idiot, but... lets start from the beginning. there are 2 tubes(im sorry, but I guess you be as frustrated answering my questions as I would asking them), the 16 mm and 22 mm. Which goes into the tank and which out of?
I understand you need to cut, but is that absolutely necessary? Since I feel the answer would be a yes, then where do you attach the 2 cut sections? Does the 2 double tap connectors fit in towards the can end or towards the tank? is that for both the inlet and outlet, or one. If one, which one? Or do the connectors come of and you fit one part of each towards the can end and the other towards the tank end? I guess all these would much easier if I had a diagrammatic set-by-step guide like you find in those DIY co2 setups and stuff.

P.S. Sorry if you feel hot under your collar.

There are many ways you can setup your filter here i am going to show how i did it for myself
first thing first you have to make sure you have every thing

thing inside the plastic bag

first cut a small piece of tubing from the thicker tube or 22 one
Image

then attach it to the valves
Image

then attach the whole piece to the input of your filter
