Advice on lighting requirement for newly started 3ft panted tank
Hi
My tank size 36x18x12 (LxHxW). I'm using light 2xt5 (14)+1xcfl (20w) . No co2. 25% water change every 3 days. Is it ok? Please guide me on lighting requirements.

Light is not enough to grow plants.
Use atleast 3 X 3 foot T5. Each tube is 21 watt.

Thank you for advice. Can I put one pll of 28w along with 2xt5 (14w) . That would be 28w pll + 28w t5 as t5 is already installed. I will remove 20w cfl.

What plants you have?
Also you need to increase lighting balancing on CO2 only otherwise algae may come.
I will not suggest increasing lighting without co2 at the least.

First of all list your plants, so that we can help you in deciding about lighting as Partha suggested.Ram wrote:Thank you for advice. Can I put one pll of 28w along with 2xt5 (14w) . That would be 28w pll + 28w t5 as t5 is already installed. I will remove 20w cfl.

High light without co2 and ferts will result in algae issues.

Sir,
I planted dwarf grass, Echinodorus Muricatus Green - One Bunch(3 Plants), Vallisneria nana – One Bunch(3 Plants), Hemianthus callitrichoides - One Bunch(20 Plants), Bacopa Caroliniana - One Bunch(5 Plants), Potamogeton gayi – One Bunch(3 Plants), Ludwigia Repens - One Bunch,

My moss turned light yellowish brown. Used DIY substrate(cocopeat, soilrite garden soil and golden sand). Substrate height 3 inch

Some of those plants require heavy light. And growing HC without co2 would be quite a challenge.

Re: Advice on lighting requirement for newly started 3ft panted tank
I'm planning to set up diy CO2 for my tank but unsure of correct dosing. also shall I put PLL of 28w along with 2xts (14 w). would it create any imbalance and algae with my set up. im already facing brown algae, but I suppose it is a new tank syndrome. please advice me about my lighting as I have already spent close to 2000/- on plants and some of them died and others like HC are growing very slow.
