Plants that have troubled you the most (submerged)

Unread post by KarthikC »

Hi All,

Let's talk about the plants that we failed to grow. Probably there is some learning hidden in failure, as always.

I have had many annoying plants that have troubled me. Including:

1.) Hygrophilia Pinnatifida. I could never grow this thing. Tried emersed, submerged in high light, with and without a nutrient rich substrate. No. Never grew for me.
2.) Vallisneria Nana: I am ashamed to say I failed with this plant too. Every time I tried it!
3.) Bucephalandra: I don't want to talk about this. I lost a healthy plant after it flowered UNDERWATER and I still do not know what I did wrong to kill it.
4.) P. Helferi: never grew for me in submerged. Had tried it with my co2 setup with Amazonia substrate.

Will update more as I remember.

Cheers,

Karthik

I have realized sustaining aquatic plants is more difficult than sustaining fishes. Some hard plants like amazon and vallesnaria survived an year but stopped growing thereafter. And, don't know, I lost most of them due to my water quality (hardness) or lack of CO2 or imbalance of light or inappropriate fertilizer dosing. Searched internet but could not find any definite answer as to why it is difficult to sustain plants while fishes are surviving in their third year in same environment.

I failed twice in growing HC but now I am able to grow HC Immersed, submerged, over rocks, over woods, with CO2 or without CO2.

Rajeev Ji, what difference or issue could you find that you failed twice earlier in growing HC??? Was it water quality or care of plants.
