How to broke Slate rocks?

Any body knows how to broke slate rocks in desired shapes?
When I strikes hammer, they broke in layers.

Need advice.

well try smashing them by dropping on the floor hard, ideally it should crack asymmetrically..:)

use marble cutter like i did to cut the long rock that i got from bappa da. :LOL

I have no marble cutter. I don't want to cut rocks using a cutter, the natural look will be disappear.

hammer under water.
Just cos it happened to you is no means for you to claim that it will happen to me. Exceptions aren't the rule.

you need a strong knife or chizzle just find a gap and the apply load or gently hammer it.

Breaking in desired shape will be tough ... cutting in desired shape is better option using cutter at slow speed and and then impacting at that place to get natural look.

Yo can easily break it with the help of hammer n chainy(don't know its English name) :mrgreen:
what you have to do is
1st find the several lines on the Slate rock(horizontally or vertically)on the line you'll have to hit the rock with tools it ill easily break into peaces :thumup
I've done for several time with slate rock :boxing

Ha what shape you want that depends on your fate :roll

Almost impossible, same time it will break in the layer also.

But Rajivji, you can joint those layers again, with silicon glue/even Mseal(have NOT tried yet)!!!
First try to break one single piece, if it breaks in layer then complete the edge breaking, then immediately join the layer otherwise you will miss the proper joining surface. Also Mseal will be a good option as the color is black will match with slate.

Keep us update with outcome, because I also faced the same issue in my 7ltr PICO.

Rajiv ji, Very sharp chisel, small hammer & lots of patience might help you here. As suggested by Zakk earlier should work good with this combination to break the slate rocks to desired shape.
