im very much interested to know about water filtration in intensive fish stocking
how the fluidized filtering system works ?
what kind of materials can be used in filter bed

let me know the basic principle of this filtering system in aquaculture

any DIY and easily tested proto ?

demerits and merits of this ?

If u r referring to Fludized Filter Bed .....then it is THE BEST BIO FILTER made till date. PFB link.

...The principal is v simple.Here sand is used as filter bed and kept under constant flow. Beneficial bacteria starts growing on each sand particle's surface resulting infinite surface area for them within limited space. Once cycled this filter is equipped to convert huge amonia to nitrate within very short time. Thus this is the best bio filter available till date and mostly used in monster tank.

Demerit : This filter is made only to serve as bio filter, mechanical filtration will not be possible using this filter. One needs to add additional mechanical filtration to keep water clean.

I have tried to find fluidized sand bed filter but all are needlessly expensive, in shops or on ebay. 3.5 k for a plastic box with some sand and a powerhead?

There is not much to do except have a powerhead that throws the sand upwards in the water column and keeps it moving. no doubt this type of filter is both simple and super efficient since the surface area of each grain of sand totals to a huge figure.

I second Romi....... It is better to DYI it rather than spending that amount....in youtube there are tons of DYI fluidized filter project videos which anyone can refer while making his/her own filter .....ur key to success will depend on a good quality water flow controller & perfect sealing .

I'll suggest to go with sand ..... because the advantage of using SAND is maximum surface area which will drastically go down if u use any larger media instead of sand. The advantage of fluidized filter bed will no longer be there if sand is not used in it. ....u need to invest on good quality flow controller....u can try PVC pipe flow controller 1/4" inch (the one with smallest cross section ) ..... i haven't made it by myself as i have sump installed in my tank....but in youtube lots of DYI fluidized filter projects r there.
