What should be the length of CO2 reactor ?

Unread post by sumer »

Hi guys,

A friend of mine makes DIY CO2 reactors. He has made a few for himself. I want him to make one for me. The issue is the Length of the reactor. We dont know how big should be a reactor.
He's gonna use a 2" PVC pipe. My tank is 18 Gallon in capacity and I'm planning to install the reactor between the outflow of the filter and my output lily pipe.
I want a length which wont break the flow of the filter by a large amount and still be useful.
And do you guys suggest filling the reactor with something ? (bio balls or ceramic rings) or should it be empty ?

Thanks.

Dude, i hope its not diffuser wala, but inline.. a simple ink test will help if so.

just at begining of reactor when its running, introduce single drop of ink. The longer it stays in chamber better it is.

Yeah it'd be an inline one. Thanks for this test. I'll try to do this.

The capability of a CO2 reactor depends upon :

- flow rate of the filter
- bps of the CO2 generated
- time for which the CO2 remains inside the reactor
- presence of any media to forcefully retain the CO2 bubbles inside the tube

The 3rd factor will depend largely upon the length of the tube, but remember, the first two also have an effect.

In most cases, a tube between 12 inches to 18 inches should be more than sufficient.

You're right. A tube between 12-18 should do. I'd go with 12". Don't wanna lose much of the flow. I would put in a few bio balls.
Once complete, will show you guys .
Thanks for the help Sai and apuda2010.
