25 degree celcius temperature is best for all the fishes in a community tank.

I ususlly let it go down to 20-22 degrees depending on the fish, otherwise 22-26 is what I aim for.

Re: Temperature for South American chiclids
Thanks for Info. Right now i have put my heater at 26 Deg.
If required will lower further as suggested.
But want to know that i felt my fishes too be more active & in mating mood at 28 Deg.
Does little higher temperature affects the behavior of fishes.
Thanks In advance.

Since you have a mix of South American and Central American Cichlids would suggest 26 deg.

Re: Temperature for South American chiclids
28 is just as fine, these fish all come from Chennai, no one keeps chillers to maintain cool waters there, its always summer in Chennai.
Not all fish have mating triggers at high temperatures, its actually the cooler rain waters just after summer that trigger it(in wild again, donno how they simulate in Chennai breeding houses).
But 28 is good for the ones you mentioned above.
BTW more that temperature I would be afraid of your tank size, what size is it?

Size has got nothing do to with what the temp should be. Size of the tank affects how quickly the water temperature may fluctuate incase of power failure etc.rahul2kcuteguy wrote:The tank size is 4 feet... Anyways they all did pretty well at 26 Deg last winter so i think its dine for now.
