Buddy I think people in this forum already know a lot about fish (which species require what not and all), we should actually start educating people who are not part of any forums and buy fish just because the lfs from where they have bought their tanks tell them that its ok to do so.... now the real problem is how can we educate such people....

one thing that comes to my mind is holding exhibitions like the one which was recently held in Mumbai 'Aqualife 2012' by not only lfs guys to promote their stores but also hobbyist whose aim was to educate people.....

Yeah Good point Vijendra!
We can hold an exhibition in the coming months to educate people
But Thats a lot of commitment and hardwork
We can even share expenses

That would be an expensive affair and won't be possible without sponsership. It should also be included that most of us lead a very busy life and dedicating time apart from the weekends won't be possible for most of us.

Yeah. Maybe we can wait for an already happening exhibition and take some space in it.
Only time can tell.
Till then we have to think of some other alternative.

Buying a hobbyist decide T-shirt with a slogan can also spread the message as we travel.
Most of my friends read the stuffs printed on them.

Big things start from small ideas. There's no doubt we need to spread the awareness amongst others!
Today my "Bua" (Father's sister) asked me why most of her Goldfish die so soon
And that followed by me explaining about their requirements and stocking info.

I never knew that she kept fish unless she asked And neither she had learnt.
If we had a T-Shirt, people can get the message automatically and curious seekers can come asking for more info

educating new hobbyist and encourage them to learn more will solve the purpose.

exhibition is an expensive affair and is very time-consuming thing. but here my suggestion will be a simple getogether with fellow hobbyist and new hobbyist.
there the lectures and basic knowledge should be imparted and hence people will get interested in fish keeping plus cheaper and less time consuming. advertisement can be done in newspaper and lfs regarding the meet. Just a thought.
Finally i am Broke but Happy :D

How many times have people asked us (fish hobbyists) the same question "Why has my goldfish that I was keeping in a bowl died", I have been asked this till date by atleast 10+ people, and when I answer their question people actually feel bad that it was due to their lack of knowledge about keeping a particular fish that they have lost it and eventually their interests in this wonderful hobby.... I feel it is our duty as hobbyists to educate people about fish keeping.

The exibitions doesnt have to be on a large scale, we can start out in a small way, as holding it in some school over the weekend or something.... wherein we hobbyists can set up few tanks and educate people about basics of fishkeeping, trust me have seen this in Mumbai and Pune and people especially small kids are very keen on learning about fish and animals..... this way we can contribute towards boosting this wonderfull hobby and save a lot of fish from dying due to human errors....

posting such info on social networking pages could start the basic idea. the idea of educating people for the sake of animal benefit.
