back home i was breeding poison dart frogs for 18 years.
they are just 1,5- max 5cm and come from middle and south america.
really exciting creatures, as they sing as birds and take care of their clutches and tadpoles.

in wild their skin is poisonous, in order to protect themselves from predators. the natives in south america use this skin poison to prepare their arrows for blow pipes...for huntig.
in captivity they do not produce poison, due to the diet. (the poison comes from the insects they feed in wild).

cultures of live food, such as fruit flies, collembola, aphids, freshly born crickets and other small insects, temperatures between 20-28 degrees and a constant moisture of 80-90% are necessary to keep and breed them.

no, this would be very expensive.
heating in the winter and AC 24/7 in summer.
they can not take temperature beyond 28 C for a longer period.

and maintaining good stock of live food consumes a lot of time...which i do not have

depending on the species you can keep them in 40cm cubes up to 100 x 50cm tanks.
some species are aggressive, so you only can keep a pair in 1 tank, some tolerate groups.
the tanks have to be planted, NOT wet, but offer some places with water...such as the leave axils of bromeliads...this is where they bring and feed their tadpoles.

good air circulation in the tanks and fresh air supply are essiatial.
spraying of tanks 1x (dry season) - 3 x (rainy season) a day.
at my best i had 20 tanks to maintain, so it rained automatically...electric timer with 5 bar pump and high pressure nozzels.

crickets: 80l glass tank with cardboard ( the one they use to carry eggs) and a pot with moist sand (thats where the cricket females lay eggs).
food was any kind of veggies and fish food.
every two weeks you get the sand pot out and replace it with a fresh one.
the "used" sand pot is being transferred to another glass tank and after a few days the crickets will hatch.
actually it is easy, but you have to maintain hygiene.

fruit flies, collemboles, and other insect cultures are another story...everything very time consuming.

but the good think is, if you are successful the hobby finances itself. food, electricity, supplies...everything was paid by selling offsprings...even a few trips to south america
